About Therapy

Seeking help can feel like a big decision and the choice of therapists and types of therapy can feel understandably overwhelming. There is never a "perfect" time to start therapy - it is never too late or too early to seek help. It can be useful to break down the process into steps. Below I have summarised the main steps in therapy to give you an idea of what therapy with me will typically involves.

Therapy Services

1. Initial email contact / optional free 15 minute telephone call

Some people like to email me a brief description of what they are looking for help with and discuss via email in the first instance. Others prefer to have a chat to discuss this in more detail. If you would like to have a brief phone call, the initial call can be booked online or by emailing me directly.

In the initial free 15-minute telephone call, we will briefly discuss your current difficulties, what you are looking for help with and any expectations, hopes or questions you may have about therapy to see whether I am the right psychologist for you. Feeling comfortable with your therapist is key to the success of therapy so this is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of whether we might be the right "fit" and to ask any questions you may have about me and my approach.

Issues commonly addressed:

  • Low mood and depression

  • Generalised anxiety and worry

  • Social Anxiety

  • Health Anxiety

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Low self-esteem and self-confidence

  • Specific Phobias

2. Assessment Session -
90 minutes - £225

In the assessment appointment, I will ask you more about your current difficulties and may also ask you some questions about other areas of your life, your current circumstances and your personal history to build up a full picture of what is going on for you.

By the end of our initial appointment we will aim to develop a shared understanding of your current difficulties and what may be maintaining them, to identify areas for improvement and begin to develop goals for therapy. At the end of the initial appointment, I will propose a treatment plan for moving forward.

3. Therapy Sessions -
60 minutes - £150

Following your initial assessment appointment, we will agree a provisional number of therapy sessions, typically between around 6 to 12 sessions. Therapy sessions usually take place weekly at the same time. We will continually review how you are finding the therapy and the progress that you are making to ensure that you are finding it as helpful as possible.
